US District Judge Jon Tigar on Monday temporarily blocked federal authorities from denying asylum claims from immigrants who have illegally crossed the US-Mexico border, noting the rule would increase dangers for asylum-seekers. “Whatever the scope of the President’s authority, he may not rewrite the immigration laws to impose a condition that Congress has expressly forbidden,” Tigar said.
